Construction Workers Trapped In Truck After Hitting Power Line

Parts of Haverford Township will be without power as PECO works on down power line.

Two construction workers were trapped in their dump truck as the dump body, or bed, hit a 34,000-volt power line that was hanging low, said Jim Marino, the Haverford Township Fire Marshal.

The workers, who have not been identified, were clearing an area at the Haverford Reserve for a new community center when the incident happened around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Marino said.

As the dump body was lifting up to dump dirt, it struck the low-hanging power line, which caused it to fall, blowing one of the back tires on the driver side off, Marino stated.

PECO was called in to cut the power to the line so the men could safely get out of the truck, Marino commented, adding that it was not clear if the line still had contact with the truck.

Marino said that the two men were in emotional shock because of the ordeal and were sent to Bryn Mawr Hospital as a precautionary measure. They were not physically injured, he said.

It is unknown how long it will take PECO to repair the line and restore power, but Marino said that parts of Haverford Township maybe without power.
