City Avenue Closed As Police Surround Building

Many officers from Philadelphia and Lower Merion police are outside a City Avenue apartment building Wednesday afternoon, and the street has been shut down in both directions there.

About 3 p.m., City Avenue closed between Conshohocken State Road and Bala Avenue, the stretch that goes over the Cynwyd Line train tracks at the Bala station. Officers have surrounded a building on the Philadelphia side of the street.

Police have not announced the nature of the incident, though one officer told people waiting for a bus near the closure that a man was barricaded inside the building and that the closure could last hours.
