5 Caught For Scamming Elderly Couple Into Home Repairs: Police

The five men allegedly provided fraudulent information regarding their business operations.

Five men were caught for allegedly scamming an elderly Havertown couple into home repairs, according to Haverford Township police.

The elderly couple, of the 3000 block of Robin Lane, told police that they were solicited by five men—Archie McGill, Mario Tan, Richard Brian McGill, Magdaleno Lopez and Marcela Garica Tapia—who allegedly told them that their home needed repairs, stated a press release issued by .

“On Wednesday, March 7, the Haverford Township Police Department investigated a possible home improvement scam against an elderly couple. … The couple of the residence reported they were solicited into having repairs done to their home and entered into a contract and paid a deposit,” the press release stated. “After the work was started, they paid a second deposit. At that point the couple felt they were being pressured into having work done on their home and believing that they were being scammed, contacted the police.”

Police learned that the business that the men were operating, called Extreme Remodeling located in West Chester, was not registered in Pennsylvania as a home improvement contractor and had no permits to do any work in Haverford Township, the press release stated.

In addition, the five men allegedly provided fraudulent information regarding their business operations, the press release continued.

The five men were arrested and charged with violations of Pennsylvania crime statutes, Pennsylvania home improvement fraud statutes and Haverford Township ordinances, according to the press release.
