2 Charged In Abuse Case Out On Bail

Two women charged with aggravated assault against a 78-year-old woman are out on bail, according to the Delaware County Prison.

Ayesha Muhammad, 19, Philadelphia, and Samirah Traynham, 22, are out on bail, the Delaware County Prison told the Haverford-Havertown Patch on Friday.

Muhammad, a former employee of the Quadrangle Retirement/Nursing Home Facility in Haverford, was for aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal conspiracy, neglect of care-dependent person, recklessly endangering another person and harassment against a 78-year-old woman with severe dementia, according to the affidavit.

Muhammad’s bail was set at $35,000, but she has made bail on Friday, according to the Delaware County Prison. 

Yeadon resident Traynham, who is facing the same charges, has been out on bail since April 6. The Haverford Township Police , another former employee of Quadrangle, this past Monday. Her bail was $25,000.

Traynham has not returned a phone call from Patch and Patch was unable to locate Muhammad.

charged in the case, Tyrina Griffin, 21, Philadelphia, is still being held at the prison, with her bail being the highest, at $50,000. Her charges are nearly similar to Muhammad’s and Traynham’s. 

Authorities alleged that there were numerous incidents of abuse, but the one incident that has garnered the most attention is the one caught by a nanny cam that the woman’s son-in-law secretly installed after her complaints of abuse.

, the three women are allegedly seen making the 78-year-old patient stand topless as they ridiculed her.

Muhammad is alleged to have poked the woman in the eye during the recorded March 31 incident, according to the affidavit. A separate affidavit stated that Griffin allegedly slapped the woman in both of her ears during the same incident.

Michael Race, director of Communications Department of Public Welfare (DPW), said that he could not comment on the ongoing investigation into Quadrangle.

“DPW has started an investigation on Wednesday and DPW staff has been on site (Quadrangle),” he told Patch. 

Quadrangle is operated by Sunrise Senior Living, headquartered in McLean, Va., and operates 18 homes in Pennsylvania alone, according to information Race has provided to the press and e-mailed to Patch.

“DPW has taken 25 separate licensing enforcement actions against Sunrise homes since 2007. Between 2007 and 2010, licensing Inspectors have spent approximately 1,000 hours conducting inspections in Sunrise homes and more than $100,000 in fines have been levied against Sunrise homes for repeated regulatory violations,” Race wrote in an e-mail accompanying the information he provided.

However, none of those actions were against the Haverford facility.

A receptionist who picked up the phone at the executive director’s office at Quadrangle said the facility was not allowed to comment.

Sunrise Senior Living has not returned messages from Patch.
