West Chester Pike Reopens After Fire

A homeowner was injured in an afternoon house fire.

A Havertown homeowner was injured when his house at the intersection of Darby Road and Route 3/West Chester Pike caught fire, Jim Marino, the Haverford Township Fire Marshal, told the Haverford-Havertown Patch.

Marino told Patch that the fire is now considered under control.

Marino said the homeowner called 911 around 3:30 p.m. and moments later firefighters were hanging out of the second-story window of the twin home. The home is across the street from the Llanerch Fire Co.

The fire prompted Haverford Township Police Department to close West Chester Pike from the  entrance to Township Line Road. The road reopened after 6 p.m.

Marino said he believe the fire started at the first floor of the house, possibly the kitchen.

The homeowner was sent to Delaware County Memorial Hospital and  Marino said he doesn't know the extent of the homeowner's injuries, adding that no firefighters were injured.

Marino said he believes the fire could have been trapped within the walls of the duplex home. Crews could be seen breaking down some of the walls to make sure the fire isn't trapped inside.

"That brown smoke you see means the fire is still somewhere (in the house)," Marino told Patch before the fire was considered under control.

Brookline, Oakmont, Bon Air and Penn Wynne Overbrook Hills Fire companies were also at the scene with rescue crews, including Narberth Ambulance Co.
