The new owners of have given a facelift (and new name) to the previous incarnation of the beloved neighborhood luncheonette. While you can still order your favorite egg dishes and grab a tuna fish sandwich the interior has undergone a transformation. The watermelon pink walls are a bright splash of color. The new lighting and sparkling clean counter offer a neat and tidy place to eat. Gladwyne Lunch Box looks like a younger and hipper version of what it used to be. The handwritten chalk board menu is fun and colorful. Reminiscent of the chalk board menus at , the menu offers up numerous breakfast and lunch items.

I stopped in for breakfast the other day and perused the Philadelphia Inquirer while waiting for my two eggs over easy. The cup of coffee was fair. As a fan of super strong coffee, I often find that the cups of joe I’m offered are very weak. This cup had a rich black brown color but was lacking somewhat in complexity of flavor.

The two egg special with hash browns and a side of toast was fairly good. The egg yolks were nice and runny and I enjoyed dipping my English muffins in them. I was hoping for a nice smear of butter but butter was nowhere to be found. The hash browns were cooked nicely but the potato flavor was not very pronounced. The side of sausage consisted of one link sliced longitudinally. It was cooked all the way through and had a nice snap to it.

The service at Gladwyne Lunch Box is friendly and casual. Everyone is greeted upon entering the space. The crowd tends to be mostly neighborhood regulars. There were married couples, businessmen on their lunch break, etc. I spoke with the server and she mentioned that many of their customers come in almost every day, which is impressive considering it . However, the transition to the new owners happened so seamlessly many of the clientele didn’t even realize it had changed hands.

Sometimes it’s best not to reinvent the wheel and the new owners of Gladwyne Lunch Box have stuck with the basics like omelets, waffles, tuna salad and steak sandwiches. The only real change that I can see is the interior. It’s amazing what a new coat of paint and some changes in lighting can do for a dining area. While it is not going to blow your mind in terms of what you’re eating, Gladwyne Lunch Box serves reliable food at a great price.
