Go Here, Not There: Shop Local Independents This Holiday Season!

The Corkboard elves say shop local this holiday season!

There’s a nip in the air. The kids are on their best behavior. Parents are making their lists, checking them twice. Merchants are preparing their wares, hoping for holiday crowds.

Let the masses descend, not on the malls, but on the mom and pop shops in the Neighborhoods!

Every dollar we spend is a choice. According to The 3/50 Project, spend it at a local independent shop, and you choose to keep 68% of your cash in the community. Spend it at a corporate Big Box, and only 43% stays here. Spend it on line – and “nothing comes home.”

Besides the impact on our local economies, spending dollars at neighborhood independents is better for consumers. Local shops are run by owners and their trusted employees, and these folks know their merchandise. They understand the fit between the product and the consumer, and they are invested in pleasing their patrons and helping them find the perfect presents!

Dollars talk.  Savings talk louder – especially when shopping for the holidays. American consumers have been trained to believe the better deal can only be found in bulk, or from chains selling at cut rates. We’ve been hoodwinked. Independent businesses offer competitive prices, and they’ll prove it when you walk through their doors this season.

Keep those doors local, save gas, and reduce your carbon footprint. Even better, buy unique holiday gifts made by local artisans, and find them in your neighborhood shops – good for gift-giving and the environment!

Approximately 20% of yearly sales happen during the holiday season. This year, KEEP THE LITTLE GUYS BUSY, AND UNCORK THE POWER OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD!
