100-Year-Old Havertown Woman to Grand Marshal Weekend Parade

Gladys Gettz was born before WWl began.

How’s this for senior: When Havertown’s Gladys Gettz was born, the Titanic had only been gathering rust at the bottom of the North Atlantic for four months, World War l was still two years off, and William Howard Taft was in the White House.

So she’s seen quite a bit. The centenarian isn’t done yet though. On Saturday, Gettz—who celebrated her 100th birthday on August 12—will serve as grand marshal of the Haverford Township Day parade, the News of Delaware County is reporting.

Assistant township manager Tim Denny told the paper that the theme of this year’s event is “getting better with age,” a slogan Gettz fits to a tee.
