On Saturday December 7, Haverford College’s Public Observing program will be hosting an exciting hands-on astronomy event! This free event will be taking place rain or shine, but telescope observing will only occur if skies are clear. Activities being offered will include:

  • Telescope observing of the Moon and other astronomical objects
  • A brief guided tour of some constellations in an open air observing session
  • Jet propulsion balloon races
  • Making moon phases out of Oreos
  • Witnessing the formation and evolution of dry ice comets
  • An interactive demonstration of why we have seasons
  • Making a string and bead model of a constellation
  • A brief talk about Planetary Geology and demonstration
    of planetary differentiation
  • And, of course, playing with astronomically inspired craft
    supplies and eating snacks!!
