Eight hundred students from throughout Delaware County will perform on February 1 at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center at the 21st Annual Invitational Choral Festival. The Choral Festival begins at 7:30pm and tickets are $5 at the door. Doors open at 7pm.
For over twenty years the music department of Upper Darby High School has welcomed area choral students to forge new friendships and develop inter-school collaboration in a non-competitive, fun-filled musical activity. Upper Darby, Haverford, Penncrest, Springfield, Sun Valley, and Unionville high schools participate and choruses from both Beverly Hills and Drexel Hill Middle Schools will participate.
The choir members spend hours of rehearsal time preparing for the event. The choral students are enthusiastic about sharing their musical pieces with students from other schools who are as passionate and appreciative about music. Each ensemble performs for approximately fifteen minutes and all choirs gather to perform the finale “America the Beautiful.”
“The Festival has provided a wonderful opportunity for the students throughout Delaware County to share their love of music with other choral students and for members of the community to experience first-hand the value of choral education in our public schools,” said Barbara Benglian, Director of the Upper Darby High School choirs.
Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is located at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA. There will be an intermission during the performance with snacks and refreshments available for purchase. For additional information, please call the box office, 610.622.1189.
