Whiz Kid of the Week: John Frankel

Check out who became this week's Whiz Kid.

Each week, the Haverford-Havertown Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

We want to hear about these amazing children and teens, and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.

Now here is this week's Whiz Kid:

  • Whiz Kid's Name:  John Frankel
  • Whiz Kid's Age: 18
  • Whiz Kid's School:  Haverford High School
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment:  Senior Member of Haverford Robotics Club, Team 484
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: "John has worked his way up to increased responsibilities in his four years in the robotics club. He recently led a group of Haverford Middle School robotics students around the workshop and had them drive a test robot.  John brings flexibility and creativity to robot design.  He was was one of a select few to be trained on the milling machine. He will be the spokesman to explain Team 484's robot to the judges at two FIRST Regionals  — Baltimore and Philadelphia. He will attend Drexel University in the fall and major in Computer Science and Game Development.  John knew in 4th grade that he wanted to be part of the robotics team when his older brother got a tour of the high school including the 'Batcave' workshop.  He is active in the National Honor Society and the Haverford High School Chamber Chorus.  He has helped at Philabundance and teaches Sunday School to second and third graders," said Steve Quinn, Ed.D, Assistant Principal, Class of 2012 & Class of 2011 G-N Haverford High School.
