Shaking Ground Disrupts Area

The ground was shaking in the local area just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Numerous people have reported that the ground was shaking and felt like an earthquake at little before 2 p.m. on Tuesday. 

The United State Geological Survey reports that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit at 1:51 p.m. Tuesday about 27 miles from Charlottesville, Va.

According to 6abc.com, an earthquake was reported in Virginia and there are reports that the quake was felt as far north as New York. The 6abc staff also report that their building was shaking earlier Tuesday.

SEPTA reports that it had temporarily suspended service on its regional rail system to inspect tracks. SEPTA tweeted at 2:49 p.m that service was resuming but delays should be expected on the regional rail lines.

PennDOT tweeted at 2:36 p.m. that it was sending inspectors out to check bridges and roadways.

Some Havertown residents have said they have either felt a minor shake to feeling nothing at all.
