Haverford High Alum Killed in Building Collapse

Mary Simpson was a 2007 graduate.

A 2007 Haverford High School graduate was among those killed in Wednesday's building collapse in Philadelphia.

6ABC News reported that Mary Simpson, 24, was in the Salvation Army thrift shop with her good friend Anne Bryan, another victim, when the building next door collapsed.

Simpson "was a gifted figure skater before graduating in 2007 from Haverford High. She skated for years at the Philadelphia Skating Club in Ardmore," 6ABC reports.

"The School District of Haverford Township extends our condolences to the family and friends of Mary Simpson," read a statement from the district.

Haverford High School Principal, Dr. Jeffrey Nesbitt was quoted as saying, “Mary excelled in and out of the classroom. Her drive, determination and grace were best seen on the ice where she competed as a figure skater.  She exemplified what we call Haverford Pride. She will be missed.”
