'Precious' Recovers with Foster Family, Awaits Adoption

Precious, the 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix that was found in a flea and feces-infested basement, continues to recover and is enjoying her foster family.

The 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix named , is now weighing in at 38 pounds and is enjoying her new, but temporary home.

Precious was transferred to foster care on July 11 in order to get more people and dog socialization with experienced emaciated dog foster parents, according to the Director of Community Relations Justina Calgiano.

Precious is now weighing in at 38.4 pounds.

"She doesn’t even look like the same dog," Calgiano said. "With a starting weight of 19 pounds upon arrival on death's doorstep, it's safe to say she's nothing short of a miracle."

After an in her foster home and gets along wonderfully with them and she seems to enjoy being a part of the "pack," Calgiano said.

Next up for Precious is people socialization.

"She gets nervous very easily when strangers are near, which isn't uncommon for a dog that suffered such severe abuse," she said.

As Precious' progress continues her adoption date will be determined.
