Police Blotter: Brother Chokes Brother

Police investigate numerous identity theft cases.

INCIDENTS:

Fraud at the 600 block of Malvern Road on 4/27 and 10:02 a.m. — Victim reported that an unknown person made a purchase using his credit card without his permission or knowledge.

Vandalism at the Haverford Middle School (1800 block of Darby Road) on 4/27 and 9:58 a.m. — Graffiti was found around the track and athletic fields.

Drug Equipment Violations at LA Fitness (400 block of West Chester Pike) on 4/27 and 10:54 p.m. — While on patrol officers observed two juvenile males exit the bushes behind LA Fitness. The officer later observed one of the juveniles at the bus stop on West Chester Pike and the subject walked away when he noticed police. Officers conducted a pedestrian stop and detected the smell of burnt marijuana about his person and he had glassy bloodshot eyes. The juvenile admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that evening and was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The16-year-old boy was arrested and will be petitioned to juvenile court.   

Theft at the 300 block of Exeter Avenue on 4/28 and 1:05 p.m. — Two copper water down spouts were stolen from the rear of the residence.

Theft at the 200 block of Rodney Circle on 4/28 and 3:46 p.m. — Silverware set was stolen from the victim's residence.

Vandalism at United Presbyterian Church (100 block of N. Eagle Road) on 4/28 and 3:30 p.m. — Graffiti was discovered on the door and recycle bin of the church.

Bicycle Theft at the 300 block of S. Manoa Road on 4/29 and 7:37 p.m.

Bicycle Theft at Brookline Pizza (unit block of Brookline Boulevard) on 4/29 and 3:29 p.m.     

Vandalism at the 100 block of Lexington Avenue on 4/29 and 9:21 p.m. — Glass in the victim's front storm door was shattered by an unknown person.

Liquor Law Violation at the Skatium (1000 block of Darby Road) on 4/29 and 6:54 p.m. — Officers were dispatched for a fight. Upon arrival officers observed two males with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.  A 17-year-old male was cited for underage drinking and disorderly conduct and John Harris, 24, 800 block of Naylors Run, was cited for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Theft at the unit block of Marthart Avenue on 4/30 and 7:41 p.m. — Vehicle was entered — iPod was stolen.

Theft at the unit block of Turnbull Avenue on 4/30 and 7:02 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — loose change was stolen.

Theft at the unit block of W. Eagle Road on 4/30 and 9:28 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered —cell phone was stolen. 

Vandalism at the 1400 block of Johnson Road on 4/30 and 8:48 a.m. — Victim reported that two of his vehicles tires were slashed and one of the windows was damaged. 

Theft at Hykles Bar at the 2700 block of County Line Road on 4/30 and 1:11 a.m. — An employee reported that he witnessed two teenagers steal two cases of beer from the basement and run into the backyard of a residence on Chestnut Avenue. Officers made contact with the homeowner and entered the residence and observed an underage drinking party. One juvenile was uncooperative and cursed at police officers. The officer conducted a search of the juvenile, 17, and observed marijuana in his pocket. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana. Another 17-year-old male was the host of the party and admitted to stealing the beer and he was arrested for theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, underage drinking and disorderly conduct. The remaining juveniles were released to their parents as it not appeared any alcohol had been consumed.

Simple Assault at the 1400 block of Fairview Avenue on 4/30 and 11:58 a.m. — Officers responded to the above location for a 911 hang up. Upon arrival it was determined that brothers were involved in a fistfight. Dennis McGovern told police that he attacked his brother when he walked in the door and attempted to choke him due to an argument they had the previous night. Dennis McGovern was arrested and charged.

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/1 and 7:19 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS was stolen.

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/1 and 7:31 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — loose change was stolen.

Theft at the 400 block of Shelbourne Road on 5/1 and 2:05 p.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS and iPod touch were stolen.

Theft at Haverford College (300 block of Lancaster Avenue) on 5/1 and 12:02 p.m. — Laptop was stolen from the stage at Founders Hall.

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/1 and 11:52 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS was stolen.

Theft at the 300 block of Virginia Avenue on 5/1 and 1:04 p.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS was stolen. 

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/1 and 12:42 p.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — loose change was stolen.

Vandalism at McDonalds (1200 block of West Chester Pike) on 5/1 and 1:45 a.m. — Unknown people vandalized a sign on the roof of the building and fled the scene. A witness gave officers a description of the males and the license plate of their vehicle.

Vandalism at the 1400 block of Delmont Avenue on 5/1 and 4:52 a.m. — Residence and vehicle was egged. 

Public Drunkenness at Ardmore Avenue and Haverford Road on 5/2 and 5:58 a.m. — Officers were dispatched for an intoxicated male. Upon arrival officers observed a male stumbling on a lawn. The person had a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his breath, glassy, bloodshot eyes and he urinated in his shorts. Marvin Garcia, 45, unit block of Rittenhouse Place, Ardmore, was cited for public drunkenness.  

Theft at the 1400 block of Brierwood Road on 5/2 and 11:07 a.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — GPS and cash were stolen. 

Fraud at the 500 block of Central Avenue on 5/2 and 6:48 p.m. — Victim reported than someone made purchases using his credit card without his permission or knowledge.

Theft at the 2800 block of Haverford Road on 5/3 and 8:14 p.m. — Jewelry and a wii system with games was stolen from the residence.

Theft at the 300 block of Upland Road on 5/3 and 4:36 p.m. — Unlocked vehicle was entered — looses change was stolen.

Fraud at the 1600 block of Surrey Lane on 5/3 and 5:53 p.m. — Victim reported that an unknown person made purchases using her debit card without her permission or knowledge.

Identity Theft at the 400 block of Olympic Avenue on 5/3 and 4:48 p.m. — Victim reported that she was notified by the IRS that someone filed a tax return using her social security number.

Narcotics at W. Eagle and Darby Roads on 5/3 and 11:11 p.m. — While conducting a vehicle stop the officer detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Police observed in plain view a pipe with marijuana residue in the center console. The 17-year-old boy was arrested for possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and careless driving.
