Optimist Youth of the Month Named

"Kevin Montresor is an eleven-year-old who has entered the 6th grade at  next week.

He lives with his mom, dad and 11-pound Toy Manchester Terrier Blitzen (a/k/a the Diva) in Havertown, where they relocated three years ago from Northern New Jersey.

His older brother Matt lives and works in the Washington, DC area.   Shortly after moving to Havertown, he entered third grade at Lynnewood Elementary. Born with a tint of pessimism in his blood, Kevin flourished in Lynnewood’s optimistic and supportive environment.

It was there he read about the positive-minded PELICAN bird who showed his negative-minded friend PELICANT how to try new things.   Empathy, enthusiasm and passion fuels Kevin’s zest for his life, interests and activities; his native curiosity leads him many places.

While Kevin tends to worry about transitions and new things, ultimately his passion and PeliCAN-like attitude prevail … sometimes with a little nudge from his parents.   After arriving here, Kevin discovered a boys’ sports 'posse,' for which he is a card-carrying member.

That led him to baseball, baseball and more baseball. He has played in Brookline, Haverford Township, All Star and other programs (earning the nickname "Strike Machine" from one of his coaches).  He also plays basketball with his posse in the Highland Park/Kirklyn league.

His interest in the Summer Olympics a few years ago lead him to run 5K races (in as little as 26 minutes). His interest in farm animals led him to the 4H and the world of dairy cows.   Kevin curiosity also surfaces in school, particularly in science," writes , Optimist Youth of the Month co-ordinator.
