The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Flood Advisory Monday afternoon for Delaware County and several other counties in the greater Philadelphia area.

"At 4:30 p.m. EDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph," the agency announced. "This storm was located 6 miles northwest of Cedarville, or 10 miles east of Reading, and moving southeast at 20 mph. There were other intensifying storms that also could become severe near Collegeville and over the city of Philadelphia."

"This is a dangerous storm," continued the alert. "If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud-to-ground lightning. People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows."
