We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the information on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Narberth Movie Night: Megamind
When/where: 7 p.m. Friday, , 100 Conway Ave., Narberth, second floor
Why go: Good is the path of honour, friends and family. Evil ... well, it's just cooler.
Cost: None


When/where: 5-8 p.m. Friday, , 746 Panmure Road, Haverford
Why go: Celebrate the vibrant and colorful work created by participants in the Art Center’s Outreach Programs as they explore rhythm and movement in the world around us through a variety of media.
Cost: free

17th Annual StreamWatch Census
When/where: 9 a.m. Saturday, West Mill Creek Park, Mill Creek and Old Gulph Roads, Gladwyne
Why go: Each year, volunteers help us understand the creek’s health by collecting samples of its aquatic life—crayfish and crane flies, mosquitoes and midges, water pennies and worms, all indicators of the water’s quality.
Cost: Free, age 12 and up

Why go: Bring the kids to enjoy music by Maestro’s Friends and donate to benefit the victims of the Japanese tsunami and earthquake.

You and Me Playdates- Instrument Safari
When/where: Monday, 10-11 am, Please Touch Museum, Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia
Why go: Explore the wide world of musical instruments. Take home a fun instrument so you can continue the music and learning wherever you are.
