Moms Talk: When is The Right Age For a Sleepover?

Need some parenting advice?

Each week in Moms Talk, the Haverford-Havertown Patch’s Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions.

So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today with a question: When is the right age for a sleepover?

Answer from Mom’s Councilmember Julie (mother of 3): I really think that it depends on the child. My 9-year-old son is not ready for a sleep over yet, but I know quite a few of my friends who have girls have had sleepovers. I would say about 9, 10 years old would be appropriate, but I really would gage it on if the child is ready to and their maturity level.

Answer from Mom’s Councilmember Emily (mother of 2): I would think this is totally child-dependent.  I think as a parent you may have a sense of when your child is ready to handle being without you for an extended period of time with someone else's family, as well as not be too much extra maintenance for another set of parents.
