Moms Talk: Ringing in the New Year with Children in Tow

Need some parenting advice?

Each week in Moms Talk, the Haverford-Havertown Patch’s Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions.

So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today with: How do you let the little ones ring in the New Year?

Answer from Mom’s Councilmember Denise (mother of 1): Every year my daughter tries to stay up until midnight, but she has never made it. Last year she asked me to wake her to watch the fireworks on television so that is what I did. We usually do something special for dinner and have sparkling grape juice to toast with.

Answer from Mom’s Councilmember Emily (mother of 2): For New Year's we have been attending a small child-friendly party at a friend's house for the past few years. We do an early countdown to the New Year, usually around 7 or 8 o'clock and give the kids noise makers, pots, etc. Everyone brings something and the kids have sparkling cider (or Kid Wine as it's known in our house).

Answer from Mom’s Councilmember Julie (mother of 3): We let the kids stay up. We usually have friends over and the kids all play together. The adults will drink, eat, and chat. At midnight we ring in the New Year together.
