Matthew D'Angeli Named As July's Optimist Youth of The Month

"Matthew D'Angeli is a 14 year older and is in tenth grade at . He has a deep love of learning, especially about mathematics and physics.  His first year at Haverford was a great experience for him.

"He was in the Student Senate and hosted a year-long comedy news radio show called "The Freshman Report" with his friends on the school radio station, WHHS.  While the radio show was great fun, nothing beat the experience for him of opening the WHHS Big Show by himself. He’s played guitar for the past five years and has been singing for the past six, the Big Show being his first live solo performance.

"Matt reports that his dog Kylie is the best dog someone could ask for.  She knows when someone is upset, she loves attention, and she’s an all-around good companion.  The only bad thing about her: she is a large dog that thinks she is a lap-dog, which can also one of her best qualities.

"For now, Matt runs a local outdoor and indoor service company, doing everything from cutting lawns to making gardens to restoring furniture.  He’s been in the business for three years now, and loves to work. Despite the stereotypes about teens, he sees what he does as a great way to meet new people.

"When he graduates high school Matt wants to go to MIT and get a job in physics or astrophysics. For the next four to eight years however, he wants to stick to working outside and making helping Havertown look just a little bit nicer," writes , Optimist Youth of the Month co-ordinator.
