Lower Merion Opens 100-Year-Old Time Capsule

Curious visitors perused items from 1910 and 1963.

In a brief ceremony Monday at Lower Merion High School, the contents of a time capsule from 1910 recovered during the demolition of the old building were presented for public viewing.

The sealed copper box not only contained a variety of items from 1910 but also, surprisingly, items from 1963, when an addition was added to the school. Among the items were newspapers, school documents, and other memorabilia including a train schedule for what is now the Paoli-Thorndale SEPTA rail line. The school's Jazz Ensemble played before the ceremony as people perused the contents of the capsules.
