Iced-Cover Roads, Cars Greet Drivers

Some vehicles have up to half an inch of ice covered on them.

Early morning drivers were met with a coat of ice as they ventured out for their morning commute.

A ¼ to ½ inch sheet of ice covered many vehicles and side roads. The rain had already started as the Haverford-Havertown Patch hit the road at 7 a.m.

Side roads were snow covered with chunks of ice and piles of slush. Chunks of ice were hazardous at the intersections and made it even more slippery for drivers.

Once on the main roads, Darby and Eagle roads had random chunks of ice mixed with snow and slush making it more dangerous for commuters. Drivers were allowing plenty of time and space as they headed out.

A by the school district and the Haverford School made traffic a bit lighter and the salt trucks were able to move around easily trying to keep up with the icy mess.

The weather system that came during the overnight brought snow before changing into freezing rain. The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 36 degrees for Tuesday.

SEPTA is reporting that trolley lines may experience delays due to the weather conditions.

Power problems have terminated the trolley lines on routes 101 and 102 and shuttle buses will operate between 69th Street and Terminal Square, SEPTA states.

And that the Norristown High Speed Line is operating every 15 minutes and running with only local service.

SEPTA is also warning of possible regional rail delays on all lines. The Paoil Line is experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes.

The following bus routes are experiencing service interruptions due to the weather conditions, reports SEPTA:

  • Rt. 27 Will remain on Ridge Ave both directions
  • Rt. 62 No service to Cathedral
  • Rt. 105 No service to Overbrook Park
  • Rt. 112 No service to Residential Park
  • Rt. 117 No service to Elwyn Station
  • Rt. 118 Will remain on Media Line Ctr Rd to enter Delaware County Community College
  • Rt. 119 No service to Concord Town Ctr. By-passing Larkins Corner
