Hero Bowl Chairman Robert T. Lythgoe (center) presented $27,740, the proceeds from the 2012 Hero Bowl, at the Nov. 21 meeting of Delaware County Council, which was accepted on behalf of the Hero Scholarship Fund by Council Chairman Thomas J. McGarrigle. Lythgoe also serves as President of the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County.
The contribution represented ticket sales from the all-star football game, played May 31 at Widener University, as well as proceeds for advertising in the program book and donations from sponsors. The game saw the East team prevail over the West squad in a 40-32 victory.
The Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County, Inc., was founded in 1977 by County Council at the request of two members of Upper Darby Township Council to provide education scholarships to children of police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who die in the line of duty. County Council cosponsors the Hero Bowl with the Delaware County High School Football Coaches Association.
Joining in accepting the donation were Council Vice Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr. (left), District Attorney Jack Whelan (2d from left) and Joe Ryan, Chief of the County Criminal Investigation Division, as well as (2d row, from left) Councilmembers John P. McBlain, David J. White and Colleen P. Morrone.
