  • No.
  • Emergency Situations will be handled in the manner that they are currently handled.
  • Trash and Recycling: During the week of the U.S. Open, all trash/recycling/yard waste must be put out after dusk the night before your scheduled pick-up. Sanitation trucks will collect trash and recycling before SUNRISE on your scheduled pick-up day. The trucks will not make any late stops. Trash pick-up will return to their normal schedule after the U.S. Open.
  • Road Opening Permits: No road opening permits will issued for the week of the U.S. Open, with the exception of emergent situations, in order to minimize the effect on traffic congestion.

Will the Haverford Township School District school buses be affected by the U.S. Open?

Yes. The Police Department has met with the School District above bus service. The District is aware of the road closures and detours in the area, and has developed a plan to maintain the level of service you already have. But, as a reminder to parents, there may be delays in picking up and dropping off children because of the increased traffic in and around Haverford Township during this week.

How will parking issues be handled during the U.S. Open?

Any parking issues that arise will be dealt with accordingly. Residents are urged to contact the Police directly at the command post during the U.S. Open. The phone number, when in service, will be published in the newsletter to be released by late May or early June.

Will the USGA be utilizing the existing field lighting on the Haverford College property?

Haverford College officials have indicated that the USGA will be utilizing its own lighting during the U.S. Open, and existing field lighting will not be used. Issues have already been raised by residents, and the Township is working with USGA to provide relief to residents.

Will there be increased traffic around Haverford Township during the U.S. Open?

Yes. The detour will affect approximately 24,000 vehicles a day.

How do I get outside services into my home during the week of the U.S. Open?

We recommend that any company that provides weekly service to a resident (e.g., landscapers, etc.) arrive earlier in the week to complete the service. Anyone who has an emergency situation requiring immediate service should contact the Police at the command post and we will ensure that help arrives to your home.

What is the best alternative if you usually use Buck Lane to travel to Lancaster Avenue (Route 30)?

The Police recommend that if who needs to travel onto Lancaster Avenue should use an intersection with a traffic signal. Drivers may use Haverford Station Road, Penn Street or Old Lancaster Avenue to reduce back-ups in certain areas. These intersections will also have a police officer posted to assist traffic as needed.

When will information be updated on the website?

As information is received, updates will be posted. You can also email the Police at 2013open@havpd.org or the use “Action Center” on the Haverford Township website to ask questions not be covered in this Guide.

How will I know what the detours are?

A copy of the detour route will be posted on the Haverford Township website. In addition, signage will be put up, as required by PennDOT, approximately three weeks before the U.S. Open to inform drivers of the detours and when they will go into effect.

Who had input on the detour plan?

Our transportation planning partners for the U.S. Open are SEPTA, USGA, Lower Merion Police, Pennsylvania State Police, PennDOT and McCormick Taylor Engineers and Planners.
