Haverford School Senior Killed in Car Crash

Kip Taviano was killed Tuesday when he lost control of his car on Smithbridge Road in Concord Township.

A senior at The Haverford School, Kip Taviano, was killed on Tuesday when he reportedly swerved into an oncoming car on Smithbridge Road in Concord Township.

"The School community is shocked and saddened, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Taviano family and Kip’s many friends. Kip was loved by all who knew him, and he will be missed dearly. We will work together today and in the weeks to come to support our boys and the School community in coping with this tragedy," read a statement from The Haverford School.

According to the school, Taviano will be remembered for his "affable" personality.

"He was a strong student and a respected member of the varsity football and lacrosse teams, including the 2013 Fords’ team that recently won the prestigious Inter-Ac Invitational lacrosse championship. In October 2012, Taviano committed to play for the new Division I lacrosse program at Furman University beginning in fall 2013," the statement reads.

"The crash that took Taviano’s life occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on a sharp curve in the 300 block of Smithbridge Road. According to Pennsylvania State Police, Taviano, driving a Toyota Camry, failed to negotiate the curve and swerved into the opposite lane of traffic and into the path of an oncoming Land Rover," reports the Delco Times.

Taviano, a member of the Haverford School’s Class of 2013 and its lacrosse team, was pronounced dead at the scene, the newspaper reports. Read how the community has responded to his death on Twitter.

The school issued a statement on Twitter Wednesday afternoon: "Our thoughts & prayers go out to the Taviano family and Kip’s many friends. Kip was loved by all who knew him, and he will be missed dearly."

This is the second accident that has claimed the life of a high school senior in our area. Paul Lewis Pratt, 18, a Radnor resident, was killed May 16 in a one-car accident on Eagle Road in St. Davids.
