Haverford Man Cheered as Good Samaritan

Reports say a Haverford husband and father dove into the icy Schuylkill to try to save a stranger.

 

John Reynolds of Havertown was driving along the Kelly Drive by the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. when he saw a car plunge into the icy water.

According to numerous media accounts, including a report on 6abc.com the 44-year-old plumber jumped into the water to try to save the driver. According to the 6abc/Action News report, Reynolds was unable to fight the currents of the frigid water and was barely able to get himself back to safety on the river banks.

The unidentified driver was eventually pulled from the car by police divers, but he was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Reynolds is back home after being treated for minor injuries.
