Time to get out and have some fun.

It's that time of the week again. Right before you dive into your weekend planning, Patch is here to offer up some suggestions about great local events to check out in Haverford Township and surrounding communities.

Julia's Journey/Beef and Beer Fundraiser

  • Where/When:  Chickie's and Pete's 1526 Packer Ave., Philadelphia, Saturday, Feb. 26, 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Why Go:   "Please join us to help raise money for Julia Donohue who has a rare form of brain cancer called Gliofibroma. In the two months since she has been diagnosed, Julia has already endured three surgeries. Through it all, this precious little girl still smiles and hows her strength to all. "
  • Pricing:$40 in advance; $45 at the door.

 

Let's Go Bowling

  • Where/When: Sproul Lanes, Open 7 days a week (check Web site for times)
  • Why Go:  Whether you’re taking the family, or going on a date, the bowling alley always provides hours of laid back fun. For the kids, there are bumper lanes. There are several package deals for larger groups, and some include pizza or other munchies. There’s also a full snack bar if you get hungry. If you’re celebrating a birthday, just bring the guests and a cake and you’re all set.

  • Where/When: , Saturday, Feb. 26, 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.
  • Why Go: Come out for some great music.
  • Pricing: N/A

The Guest Artist Series from the Philadelphia Orchestra

  • Where/When: Roberts Marshall Auditorium, at , Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go:   "On Sunday, February 27 at 3:00 PM, the Guest Artist Series presents Debra Lew Harder, piano, with David Kim, violin, Sarah Adams, viola, and Efe Baltacigil, cello.  Their program will feature Ravel's Duo for Violin and Cello, Beethoven's Violin Sonata in D Major, Op. 12, Brahms’ Piano Quartet in A Major and Ingrid Arauco's Ritorno for solo piano. "
  • Pricing: "$15 (General), $12 (Seniors), $8 (Students), $5 (ages 7 – 17), and free to the bi-college community."

 

  • Where/when: Bryn Mawr Film Institute, Sunday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.
  • Why go: To raise money for local filmmaking, to watch the Academy Awards and to bid on a vacation to Aruba in the silent auction.
  • Pricing: $55 for BMFI members, $65 otherwise
