Celebrate 7-Eleven's Birthday With a Free Slurpee

7-Eleven is set to give out 5 million free 7.11 ounce Slurpee's today to celebrate their 84th birthday.

What better way to cool down on a hot July day than with a Slurpee from 7-Eleven? Better yet a free Slurpee from 7-Eleven?

“Even without the five million free Slurpee drinks, July is the biggest month of the year for Slurpee sales,” said Jesus Delgado-Jenkins, 7-Eleven’s senior vice president of merchandising, marketing and logistics in a news release. “What better drink for the hottest month of the year.”

While a manager declined to be interviewed by the Haverford-Havertown Patch, the store has participated every year since 7-Eleven has hosted this event. The free Slurpee event has taken place since 2002 when 7-Eleven celebrated its 75th birthday.

Opening their first convenience store in 1927 in a Dallas suburb, the convenience store was selling only bread, milk and eggs on an ice dock and 84 years later, according to a news release.

Two years ago 7-Eleven gave out 3 million Slurpees, but now recently increased to 5 million free Slurpees due to the recent use of social media to spread the word.

More than 3,700,000 people “like” the Slurpee page on Facebook and up until today, slurpee.com had a banner running at the top of the page counting down to 7-Eleven Day. Also, on Twitter are two pages to help promote the event, @slurpee and @7eleven.
