Main Line Art Center Approved for Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program

Main Line Art Center is proud to announce that the PA Department of Community and Economic Development has approved the Center as an Educational Improvement Organization (EIO) under the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC).

This designation allows businesses to donate to Main Line Art Center and in return, receive EITC tax credits up to 75% of its tax contribution to a maximum of $750,000 per taxable year, in addition to receiving a federal charitable deduction. The tax credit may be increased to 90% of the contribution made, up to a maximum of $750,000 per taxable year, if the business agrees to provide the same amount of contribution for two consecutive tax years. Tax credits are awarded beginning July 1, 2013 at midnight and are awarded until credits are exhausted.

Executive Director of Main Line Art Center, Amie Potsic, sees the EITC Program as a win for the business community as well as for the greater community at large.

“We are thrilled to share this exciting new giving option with the members of the business community, especially those who already recognize the importance of supporting their community’s resources,” says Potsic.  “Businesses who donate to Main Line Art Center through EITC will help us grow our award-winning programs, such as our classes for children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities and our innovative exhibition series, and keep our high-quality visual arts instruction affordable.”

Entities eligible to apply for EITC are operating businesses authorized to do business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that are subject to Corporate Net Income Tax, Capital Stock Franchise Tax, Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax, Title Insurance Companies Shares Tax, Insurance Premiums Tax, Mutual Thrift Institution Tax, Insurance Company Law of 1921, Personal Income Tax of S corporation shareholders or Partnership partners. Pass-through entities are eligible, however sole proprietors are excluded.

Business applications to participate in the EITC program can only be accepted electronically.  On or before July 1, eligible business owners or their tax advisor must register with the State of PA’s online application system, PA Power Port.  Access to the EITC application will be available beginning July 1 at midnight. Upon approval, businesses have 60 days to send a check to Main Line Art Center which otherwise would have been sent to the PA Dept. of Revenue when filing the business’ tax return.

Business owners interested in learning more about the EITC Program and Main Line Art Center should contact Nan Latona, Development Director, at 610.525.0272, ext. 113.
