Township To Host Inaugural Music Festival Sept. 17th

Volunteers are still needed as last minute preps for Haverford Music Festival are underway.

Five thousand people are expected to attend the first Haverford Music Festival to be held in the township on Saturday, Sept. 17. 

In a press released issued Tuesday, Festival Director Tom Kelly asks, “We need over 100 volunteers to make our music festival a success.”

A volunteer meeting will be held this Saturday, Sept. 10th at 11:30 a.m. at the Oakmont Pub Patio, at Eagle and Darby roads, Havertown.

“We have engaged multiple sponsors, recruited a wide variety of vendors, and booked over 40 performers to play at the festival, and now we need volunteers to make this community event a reality,” adds Kelly.

“Even if you can help for just a few hours, please come to the meeting on September 10th and sign up,” says Kelly

The performers will play on two separate stages throughout the day in the Oakmont business area of Havertown. The first stage will be located on East Darby Road near Campbell Avenue and the second stage will be located on the field behind the Oakmont Administration Building at Eagle and Darby Roads.

Some of the bands scheduled to perform include Donovan Rice, a Beatles-influenced indie rock band, Del's Groove, a party band, Stelladeora, a punk/pop band, Rumours, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Equinox, a jazz band, and Acez, a Grateful Dead jam band and many more.

Emmanuel Del Pizzo, head of the festival talent, says, “The idea for the Haverford Music Festival sprouted from the Haverford Township Civic Council as a day of fun and music for the township residents. All the bands this year are donating their time to help kick off the festival but as the festival grows, the festival expects to be able to pay the bands to play.”

As the festival organizer, the Haverford Township Civic Council benefits from any proceeds, which will be used to fund community-based programs including the Freedom Playground, Tree Tenders and others within Haverford Township, says Kelly.

Some of the sponsors include PECO, McGoldrick Plumbing and Gans Plumbing. Wendy’s Restaurant will be giving away more than 1,000 free hamburgers to festival goers while supplies last and Wendy Thomas, daughter and namesake for Wendy’s is also scheduled to attend the event.

Food vendors scheduled to participate include Cenzos Pizza, Mom’s Bake-At-Home Pizza, Lucky Dragon, Sampan Inn, and Philly Soft Pretzels to name a few.

According to Del Pizzo, both the and the will have a “beer garden” set up on the grounds of their restaurants.

The event will close down a section of East Darby Road from Campbell Avenue to Eagle Road. The intersection of East Darby and Eagle roads will be open to vehicles but traffic will be directed by . Additionally, East Hathaway will be closed from Eagle Road to Clover Lane.”
