Recycle Electronics for Free at Staples

The office-supply chain announced the initiative Friday.

Staples stores nationwide, including the , are now offering free recycling of some electronics in partnership with HP, the companies announced Friday.

Customers can drop off items at the service desk during normal store hours: 8 a.m.-9 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

The following items can be dropped off for recycling:

  • Desktop PCs, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs, external hard drives and small servers
  • All computer monitors
  • Printers, desktop copiers, faxes and all-in-one devices
  • Mice, keyboards, modems/routers networking and PC speakers
  • Shredders, streaming devices, phones and Universal Power Supply (UPS battery backup)
  • Mobile phones, GPS devices, MP3 players, digital camcorders and digital cameras

The following items cannot:

  • Televisions
  • Appliances
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Floor model copiers/printers
  • Large servers
  • Audio/visual equipment
  • Kitchen electrics
