Opening Date Announced for Quarry Center Giant

'We should have a thriving shopping center,' commissioner says while making the announcements.

It's a shopping center more than 30 years in the making and now there's a grand opening date for the new Giant supermarket that will anchor the new Quarry Center shopping center on Township Line Road in Haverford.

Haverford Township 9th Ward Commissioner William Wechsler told colleagues and audience members at Monday's commissioner's meeting that the Giant supermarket is set to have a grand opening on April 17.

The Giant is one of two main anchor stores in the new Quarry Center shopping center on Township Line Road just south of West Chester Pike/Route 3. It's built on the old Llanerch quarry that Wechsler says took about 32 years to fill before construction could even begin.

According to Wechsler, the Lowe's home improvement store is running about a month behind the Giant and should be opening in May. "By the end of May we should have a thriving shopping center," Wechsler told the commissioners.

What are you looking forward to most about the new Quarry Center?

Nothing, What a mess we don't need.

Looking for Giant to be all that the Springfield Del Cty location on 320 is. Looking for maybe another anchor to be a restaurant like Bertucci's or Olive Garden so Havertown won't have to travel to Springfield De. Cty.

Well for me, I am looking for great prices, good service, fresh produce and perhaps a shopping cart that doesn't have that one wobbly wheel, while were at it, maybe just once they won't put the laundry detergent on top of my eggs in the shopping bag, oh and maybe they will be a little more compassionate if a person eats directly from the salad bar, and would it kill them to be more lenient on us older shoppers that want to take a battery or two without paying,,,I mean they are only batteries! Anyway, I will be first in line on the 17th, unless I have to go to the post office or a funeral.

just what we need, more traffic on route 1 and west chester pike, it is not congested enough.
Havertownian March 12, 2013 at 01:32 PM
Eating from the salad bad, DISGUSTING! No compassion for anyone that does that, age doesn't matter. Stealing is stealing, be it lettuce or batteries.

Agreed MJP, but, hey, if this won't generate enough traffic for you. . .Then The YMCA will be right there to guarantee congested roadways!

Havertownian, did you not get that the person was joking?

You know, from our end of Havertown, we can get to Wegman's KOP probably in almost as much time as it takes us to crawl WCP/Darby or Eagle roads to get to that end. And Wegman's is better!

I'm just hoping that the new Quarry isn't swallowed up by a gigantic sinkhole from the old quarry. Wouldn't that be something?

Best move Havertown has done for us! Hoping to see more tax revenues. Thank you!

I'm looking forward to the convenience of having these two great businesses right in our neighborhood! I currently drive out to Broomall and Springfield for Giant and occasionally I go to Plymouth Meeting for both Giant and Lowe's. It will be nice to save a little bit of gas money. And isn't alot of the congestion in Havertown due to the enormous amount of stop signs, "Do Not Enter" signs and "No Thru Traffic" signs posted around town? Maybe if they removed some of them, main roads like Darby, Eagle, and West Chester Pike wouldn't be so bad.

To many stop signs wait till the Township blows more money on buying "STOP SIGN AHEAD " signs 25 yds. before the stop signs ! eb
