Opening Date Announced for Quarry Center Giant

'We should have a thriving shopping center,' commissioner says while making the announcements.

It's a shopping center more than 30 years in the making and now there's a grand opening date for the new Giant supermarket that will anchor the new Quarry Center shopping center on Township Line Road in Haverford.

Haverford Township 9th Ward Commissioner William Wechsler told colleagues and audience members at Monday's commissioner's meeting that the Giant supermarket is set to have a grand opening on April 17.

The Giant is one of two main anchor stores in the new Quarry Center shopping center on Township Line Road just south of West Chester Pike/Route 3. It's built on the old Llanerch quarry that Wechsler says took about 32 years to fill before construction could even begin.

According to Wechsler, the Lowe's home improvement store is running about a month behind the Giant and should be opening in May. "By the end of May we should have a thriving shopping center," Wechsler told the commissioners.
