Haverford YMCA To Hold Ground-Breaking Ceremony

Hundreds are expected to gather at the new YMCA site in Havertown Tuesday morning to witness the ground-breaking ceremony.

In a YMCA press release sent to the Haverford-Havertown Patch, many will come out to the official kick-off construction of the first YMCA in Haverford Township. The event will take place at the site of the YMCA, on 891 N. Eagle Rd., Havertown, at 10 a.m., Tuesday.

Some of the officials expected to attend will be President and CEO of the YMCA of Philadelphia and vicinity John Flynn, 9th Ward Commissioner Bill Wechsler, James McGarrity, 7th Ward commissioner, and Carl Everett, board chair of the Haverford Area YMCA.

“Youth from , and will provide entertainment and assist Y members, donors, volunteers and staff in breaking ground on this new YMCA. A special presentation will be made in honor of the YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity’s 7th Grade Membership Initiative. Current 5th grade students will receive a free one-year membership that they can redeem when they enter into the 7th grade, which will coincide with the grand opening of the Haverford Area YMCA in fall 2013,” stated the press release.

Among the other companies expected to be present, PECO will make a $250K donation to support the “PECO Running & Walking Track” at the new Haverford Area YMCA, according to the press release.
