A Place Where Everyone Knows Your Name

This week's review takes us to neighborhood favorite, Hanne's Breakfast Nook and Luncheon

I've probably eaten in hundreds of restaurants all over the place. It's rare for me to set foot in a dining establishment and find something truly unique. When I walked into I had to admit to myself that I had never seen any place like it.

The name says it all, they serve breakfast, lunch (and brunch). The food is simple, not fussy and made to order. The price points are quite affordable.

I walked in starving on a Sunday (is there a better day for brunch?) and ordered the "hat trick" ($7.00). It had two eggs your way (had mine over easy), breakfast potatoes (crisp chunks of potatoes), choice of sausage or bacon (sausage), choice of English muffin or toast (muffin) and one slice of french toast or a single pancake (I had the pancake) and coffee.

It was my own brunch feast and I ate every bit of it. The eggs were warm and runny (many places overcook their eggs), the potatoes and sausage well cooked and the pancake delicious. The menu also offers up a variety of omelets or you can create your own. Oatmeal is offered on the weekdays but not on weekends. All of the items are under ten dollars which makes this place a great bargain.

I can't report on the lunches offered here as I only had the chance to have brunch. The lunch menu does have sandwiches, burgers and cheesesteaks and I found out that the burgers and cheesesteaks are made with sirloin. My server assured me they could both go toe-to-toe against any burger or steak in the area. This rousing endorsement has definitely piqued my interest and I will try them both one day.

The restaurant supports the local Philly teams (my server had on an Eagles jersey) but the Flyers are the clear favorite as evidenced by all the Flyers fan paraphanalia (remember what the breakfast feast was called, right?).

The abundant Philly sports team gear, dozens of family photos on the walls and the fact that everyone in there seemed to know the chef and the servers (and vice versa) made it truly one-of-a-kind. It's kind of like the bar Cheers, if it were in the suburbs of Philly, served comfort food instead of beer, was family owned and operated and Norm, Cliff and Sam were fans of the Flyers, Eagles and Phillies.

My only caveat is that they close fairly early so check the directory for their hours.
