Malvern Retreat House
Malvern Retreat House, which celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2012, will host an invitational art show to benefit its programs and to highlight the retreat house, its 125 acres for quiet reflection, and its special mission.
The Malvern Retreat House Art Show will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 through Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 in the McShain-Horstmann Family Life Center. The hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wed.-Sat., and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Sun. It is free to the public and all sales are 35% tax deductible.

“We are very pleased with the opportunity to offer this program,” said James A. Fitzsimmons, president of Malvern Retreat House. “It is a wonderful opportunity for those who know and support our retreat ministry as well as for many people from the area who will enter our grounds for the first time.”

The Malvern Retreat House Art Show will be run by volunteers who helped to create and sustain a university-based show for more than 25 years. The Malvern Retreat House Art Show will feature local and regional artists, chosen from the most successful at the previous shows, who represent the best in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and other media.
The participating artists, many of whom enjoy national and international followings, include painters Judy Antonelli, Richard Bollinger, Michele Byrne, Matiko Mamaladze, Victor Mordasov, and Howard Watson; sculptor Klaus Ihlenfeld; and photographer Harold Ross.
In addition, the Art Show will present special events featuring three of Chester County’s premier artists:
Matiko Mamaladze demonstrates her palate-knife painting technique on Thursday, February 2, 1 p.m.-3 p.m., while attendees taste an exquisite peach pastry, a typical treat from the former Soviet Union. Cost is $30 with advance registration suggested.
Judy Antonelli demonstrates her new technique of pastel over watercolor painting, on Friday, Feb 3, 1-3 p.m. Refreshments are included in the $15 fee.
Richard Bollinger presents Vignettes in Art and Life on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m.
He will have a virtual studio devoted to 30 years of his artwork, and stories of his art, family and his own personal spiritual journey. This event is free to the public.
Malvern Retreat House, owned and operated by Catholic laity, was founded in 1912. It annually hosts 20,000 men, women, families, married couples, religious and clergy. A spiritual sanctuary in Chester County, Malvern Retreat can accommodate 400 people overnight and offers traditional weekend programs as well as week-day retreats.
