PARTHENIA - a consort of viols- performing "When Music and Sweet Poetry Agree"
Roberts Marshall Auditorium
In the Elizabethan world, poetry and music were inseparable: poetry was conceived as song and music took its forms and phrasing from poetry. This concert will intersperse dramatic readings of the poetry of Shakespeare and Donne with instrumental and vocal musical vignettes, creating an evening of sung poetry and spoken music.
Parthenia, a consort of viols, will be joined by soprano, Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek (of Anon 4) and actor, Paul Hecht, in "When Music and Sweet Poetry Agree", interweaving poetry of Shakespeare and John Donne with music of the period.
