Nearby Philadelphia Tops Hotspot List of Stolen iPhones

Philadelphia tops AAA’s list of smartphone hotspots where the handheld computers are stolen or lost.

“That iPhone is iCandy to thieves,” warned Jenny Robinson, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic, in a press release. 

About 113 smartphones go missing every minute, according to AAA.

While Philadelphia’s population may be fifth in the country, the city is top in smartphone theft or loss. Here’s the complete list from AAA:

  1. Philadelphia
  2. Seattle
  3. Oakland
  4. Long Beach
  5. Newark
  6. Detroit
  7. Cleveland
  8. Baltimore
  9. New York
  10. Boston

“Don’t let the fast fingers of pickpocketers get away with your high-tech devices,” Robinson said.  “Stay alert and secure such devices while walking around the city, parking in a garage, and waiting for and riding mass transit.”
