Dream Job

By Danell Worrell

Harcum College had their annual Career Expo on October 17, organized by the Office of Career & Transfer Services Services. Over 20 employers came out to talk with students representing a range of industries from Allied Health to Human Services to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employers set up tables with information about their workplace and handed out applications so anyone could apply on site.

Some students even came dressed to impress as if they were attending an actual job interview.  Some students also were prepared with their cover letters and resumes to give to the employer to increase their chances of getting the job they applied for. According to Harcum College data, graduates have an 85% job placement rate.  One hundred-forty students attended.

Events like this one are very helpful to students who are in the process of looking for a job. According to Danyele Dove, Director of Career& Transfer Services, “The Career Expo was an excellent opportunity for students to learn about their career paths of choice. The expo also offered students an opportunity to gain face-to-face time with recruiters and to get their questions answered. In the future, I would like to see more students prepared to speak with employers and represent themselves as young professionals. I would also like to see more representation from the entire student body.”   When asked if any of the students might receive a job due to the Career Expo, Ms. Dove said, “Several students have reported getting called to come in for an interview, so we are eagerly waiting to hear if they were hired.”
