Camille Pointer is making beautiful music thanks to PAS…and her Grandmother’s piano!

10-year old Camille Pointer has been taking piano lessons for the past three months at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. Camille and her mom, Ayana, reached out to PAS in August with the help of Gail Stein, a social worker from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where Camille is a familiar face as her mom works for the hospital’s Center for Autism Research. Gail shared with PAS that it has always been Camille’s dream to learn to play the piano given to her family by her grandmother, but the cost of piano lessons was prohibitive for her parents. PAS was quick to approve this scholarship request and get Camille started on her weekly lessons.

Regina is a kind, patient and caring young lady.   Camille is an eager student with a strong desire to soak up as much knowledge as she can to continue her development as a pianist says her instructor, Regina Shenderovich.    Regina boasts, “Camille has continued to excel in her lessons since day one…she always comes to practice with a smile on her face!” Camille’s mother expressed her gratitude to Regina and the Settlement Music School and said that she has noticed a wonderful difference in her daughter’s demeanor, “She holds her head up high; she has confidence now!”

PAS paired Camille with the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia because they are a devoted organization that encourages their students to explore and develop their musical curiosity and grow as individuals. The partnership between PAS and the Settlement Music School started several years ago and PAS has received nothing but positive feedback from both scholarship recipients and their music instructors.
