The Upper Darby Summer Stage will be presenting The Adventures of Tom Sawyer this Wednesday and Havertown's Tristan Horan will be performing the famous mischief maker. Lauren Stevenson Yacina, marketing director of the Upper Darby Summer Stage, reached out to the Haverford-Havertown Patch in an email that Horan, who is the son of Daniel Horan the new principal of Haverford Middle School, will be playing Mark Twain’s beloved character. The Haverford School wishes to share the following information: Forty Upper School Haverford School Chinese, Spanish, and Latin language students wereinducted into language honor societies this year. Two students were inducted into two language honor societies.Language honor society members maintained an A- average for the last three semesters.
The Methaction Community Theater wants to share the following information: Methacton Community Theater will present Annie as their summer musical. It opened this past Friday, July 13 at 8 p.m. at the Perkiomen Valley Middle School East stage. Havertown orthodontist Shawn Faust emailed the Haverford-Havertown Patch earlier this week, stating that he will be moving his practice into the old Citizen's Bank. Faust, whose current office is at 1621 Darby Rd., wrote in an email that he is looking forward to moving into the old bank located at 1635 Darby Rd. "It has been vacant for almost four years. It's a beautiful brick building literally next door to the middle school," he wrote. "We are going to incorporate the bank vault and drive thru window into the design of the office."

Joel Perlish, of Joel Perlish Photography, wanted to share these pictures of a program founded by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. Nancy Walker and Jef Savage presented "The Titanic: A Salute Through Dance" on Sunday, June 10, at the Haverford Township Free Library. Ms. Walker and Mr. Savage performed social dances from the Titanic era while dressed in period clothing. They also discussed the importance of dance in its cultural and social context. The program was funded in part by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.

Devon Prep wanted to share this information with the community. Several area students recently graduated from Devon Preparatory School during the Class of 2012 Commencement Ceremony held on the school’s campus in Devon. Nearly half of the 49 graduates reside in Delaware County. Collectively the Class of 2012 earned over $7.4 million in college scholarships. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will replace worn bridge joints next week on northbound and southbound Interstate 476 between Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and Route 3 (West Chester Pike) in Marple, Haverford and Radnor townships. During the operation, one lane will be closed on northbound and southbound I-476 on Sunday through Thursday (June 10-14) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather. During its Wednesday meeting, the Delaware County Council was honored with a Heritage Commission award for “the rehabilitation and reuse” of the Rose Tree Tavern after it was moved from its original location at Rose Tree Road and Route 252 to its current location in Rose Tree Park, in Upper Providence. “The original structure that dated to 1739 is gone, but the 1809 inn was rehabilitate by the county council and is once again open to the public as the headquarters for the Brandywine Conference and Visitors Center,” according to the council’s press release, which is attached to this article. …

MEDIA–Delaware County Community College recently announced registration is open for students who are looking to receive their GED. Summer courses are available to to help students prepare for the test leading to the Pennsylvania High School Equivalency Diploma. According to the school, this 30-hour course covers all test areas: reading writing, English, math, natural science and social studies.
