The Delaware County Library System (DCLS) will host Philadelphia Union soccer player Brian Carroll in a guest reading at the Aston Public Library on Friday, June 15 at 3:30 p.m. Special door prizes for the event will be 15 tickets to the Saturday, July 14 Union match against the Montreal Impact. These prime seats are valued at $100 each and drawings will be for three sets of four and one set of three tickets. Plus, each set of tickets will include a VIP parking pass.
The tickets were donated by Delaware County Council.
Carroll, a defensive midfielder for the Major League Soccer team that plays at PPL Park, will read one his favorite books, Little Blue Truck. Joining Carroll will be County Council member John McBlain who will read a soccer themed book and pull the winning door prize ticket. (Winner must be present.)
After the story time, Carroll will answer questions and sign copies of his READ poster, one of several celebrity “Read” posters created by DCLS to promote literacy and library use. Copies of the poster will be given to the first 50 participants.
The soccer story time is geared toward children age 3 to Grade 3. The story time will be limited to 50 children and their caregivers.
Carroll plays with the Philadelphia Union at the new PPL Park in Chester. A native of Virginia, he played college soccer at Wake Forest University. The midfielder owns the second-longest consecutive games played streak in MLS history with 90 (ended on 9/23/06). After being selected in the second round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft, Carroll spent five seasons in DC before being selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in 2007 and was traded to the Columbus Crew. He joined the Union in December 2010.
The Delaware County Library System is a department of county government responsible for supporting public library service. The Aston Public Library is an independent member of the Delaware County Library System.
