Main Line Art Center Undergoes Renovation, Addition

The art center will function during its closure by using off-site amenities.

Main Line Art Center will be undergoing a renovation and addition that will close its Haverford location from June through October.

Current studios will be updated, and new jewelry and painting studios will be added to the existing building. Windows will be added to the ceramics department in the basement to bring in some natural light.

Also, what used to be the front door of a century-old mansion will once again become a main entrance, said executive director Amie Potsic. The shift will bring most visitors in through the art center's galleries. The handicap-accessible side door will remain an access point.

The art center is not adding any impervious surface, as the added square footage will be balanced by the removal of a patio.

Summer camps will be held at the Shipley School, and summer classes at the nearby Haverford School, Potsic said. Fall classes will be held remotely as well. Look for some "out of the box" offerings to mix things up, Potsic told Haverford Patch.

The art center's exhibit that features artists with disabilities will be held at various community venues.

Although the art center's staff will also be moved off-site, they can still be contacted via the same email addresses and telephone numbers as they are now.
