During Monday night's Haverford Township Board of Commissioners' meeting, Jim McGarrity was honored for his 20 years of service.
Board president and 9th ward commissioner Bill Wechsler said that the state Association of Commissioners honored McGarrity with an award for being a commissioner of the 7th ward for 20 years.
"It's a tribute to your longevity Jim," Weschler said before he presented the award to McGarrity.
Going up to the podium, McGarrity jokingly said that he was simply a quiet man but he did thanked the association and his fellow commissioners.
"I'm not going to take any cheap shots or anything, but if my opponent elects to keep running against me the next four times and the good Lord keeps me here, I hope I'm here for the 40," he said with a laugh.
