Haverford School Senior Patiently Waited For This Year

Zach Rego's wait has been rewarded this year.

senior Zach Rego played the good soldier last year. He stepped back while seniors carried the offense for the Fords in winning their second-straight . Rego never complained, never created a stir with lack of playing time. He was the consummate team player waiting for his chance.

That opportunity has arrived this year.

Rego ripped through Pennridge for 130 yards on 18 carries, and scored three touchdowns, one on an interception return, in a 26-21 . It marked the sixth-straight victory for the Fords, carrying over from the five-straight they closed their season with last year.

“Zach is a Division I athlete, he’s going to Georgetown for lacrosse, he also wrestles and he’s low and shifty,” Fords’ coach Mike Murphy said. “Zach didn’t play much for us last year. In this day and age, you have a kid that’s great in one sport, they can focus on that sport and leave football. We’re certainly happy Zach has a great attitude.”

The Haverford School will have its winning streak tested when the Fords travel to Cardinal O’Hara Saturday at 11 a.m.

“I was impressed by O’Hara (against Archbishop Ryan), without question,” Murphy said. “O’Hara is the kind of team that I want to play, and they have some very special players there. We’ll look to come out and try and compete. These kids are used to winning. We really want to carry over the momentum of what we put together at the end of last year, that’s hungry guys who want to win. We have a different feel for what this team has. We know our offense and defense better.”
