Haverford School Is Ready Again For The Beast

Haverford School football coach Mike Murphy wants to keep the Inter-Academic League championship trophy.

Haverford School football coach Mike Murphy likes having the Inter-Academic League championship trophy in his office.

He’s not about to give up any time soon—but it is that time of year again. It’s Malvern Prep time. Haverford School is the two-time defending Inter-Ac champs.

Two years ago, the Fords shared the title with Malvern Prep and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. Last year, the Fords won the title outright. Murphy is not ready to let go just yet.

Haverford School beat Malvern Prep the last two years. Malvern Prep is 7-1 overall and Haverford School is 6-2. The two rivals will meet at Malvern Prep at 2 p.m. on Saturday, which has been rescheduled from 7 p.m. Friday because of a play being performed at Malvern Prep.

“I’m fired up for this,” Murphy said. “To me, when I took over here, there were two standards in this league, Malvern Prep and Penn Charter. For a lot of years, those were the two names on that (Inter-Ac championship) trophy. Malvern Prep is a great football program, they’re well coached, and they could easily be 8-0. We’ll be there Saturday. I can’t wait.”
