Haverford High to Host PMEA Region 6 Orchestra Festival Concert
Regional Orchestra Festival at Haverford High School
Guest Conductor Andre Raphel, Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, and Guest Soloist Robert Kesselman, Philadelpia Orchestra, Will Perform with Students at Concert on Saturday, February 23.
Haverford High School is proud to host the 2013 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s annual Region VI Orchestra Festival. The festival will assemble 109 high school musicians from 43 high schools in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. Students will participate in three days of workshops and the festival will culminate in a public performance on Saturday. In addition to instructors from the participating high schools, students will learn from Guest Conductor, Andre Raphel and Guest Soloist, Robert Kesselman, both Haverford residents.
The festival Concert is open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. The concert will be held in the Auditorium at Haverford High School (200 Mill Road, Havertown, PA 19083)
Guest Conductor, André Raphel
André Raphel is the music director of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. He was assistant conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra (1994–2000), working with Wolfgang Sawallisch. He also served as an assistant conductor of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
Guest Soloist, Robert Kesselman, Double Bass
Robert Kesselman, a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra bass section, attended Temple University and the Curtis Institute of Music. In 1980 he was a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony. In 1987 he was accepted into the Philadelphia Orchestra. He currently teaches at Temple University.
